A 39-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit and run driver on the Upper West Side Friday night. It happened at Broadway and 90th at 7:50pm.

Witnesses say they saw a car speeding up Broadway, possibly trying to get away from police.

One eyewitness said he saw the black Dodge Avenger go through a red light.

The unidentified woman had just gotten out of an SUV, when the black Dodge Avenger sped up Broadway and struck her.

The driver of the Dodge, in an attempt to get away, lost control and smashed into several parked cars.

"He did some shoplifting at the CVS earlier in the evening on Broadway," said one witness, "When he left, security got his license plate, and they gave it to the police. When the police saw him up on 90th he refused to stop, and that's when he took off," explained one eyewitness.

The woman was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital.

Police have at one person in custody, but are still looking for the other two people that were in the Dodge.
