A group of teenage girls was struck by a hit and run driver on Long Island. It happened on Old Country Road near the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City around 6pm.

All four of the girls are 16 years old.

Three of the girls were taken to Winthrop University Hospital, one of them is listed in critical but stable condition.

The fourth girl was taken to Nassau University Medical Center.

None of their injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The other two are believed to have just bumps and bruises.

The driver fled the scene but was later arrested by police about a mile from the mall at Stewart Avenue and Clinton Road.

Police say a Good Samaritan followed the man in their vehicle until police arrived.

Police say the girls were standing on a small island that divides the turning lane and the southbound side of Glen Cove Road as they waited to cross the street.

Somehow, a car jumped the curb and slammed into all four girls before continuing south.

Old Country Road is closed eastbound from Washington Avenue through Glen Cove Road for the accident investigation.
