It was the beginning of the holiday getaway for the 4th of July.
And the celebrations got started tonight in Coney Island.
Some watched the Coney Island Friday night fireworks from the railing; others posted in the sand.
And the kids loved every minute of it. The backdrop: shoulder to shoulder crowds on a boardwalk and bright lights from the amusement park rides.
This is how the day got started...beautiful beach scenes that almost seemed scripted.
Bronx resident Luz Perez says, "It's been fantastic. The beach has been great. The water has been cold, but great, you know."
Perfect for snoozing and sunning and camping out for the night ahead.
Williamsburg resident Martha Perez says, "The fireworks are real nice. They're nice. They're worth hanging around for."
