Fire tears through Norwalk building, affects trains

NORWALK

The fire broke out in a building housing Garibaldi Mexican Grill restaurant on Wall Street just after 5 a.m. Friday. Residents were rushed to safety after a passing police officer spotted the flames.

Two residents were injured, jumping for safety from the fire. The two people who jumped were being treated for undisclosed injuries at Norwalk Hospital. Their names haven't been released.

Numerous residents who live in apartments above the restaurant were left homeless. The Red Cross is on the scene.

The fire broke out directly above a tunnel housing Metro North tracks, causing a partial suspension on the Danbury line. Service was restored just before 10 a.m.
