NJ: Medical marijuana to be available by July

TRENTON, N.J.

The Department of Health and Senior Services released its draft rules for medical marijuana on Wednesday.

It said doctors will be able register with the department later this month, and patients whose names have been submitted by their physician will be able to register beginning in November. They'll be issued photo IDs by the end of the year.

The department will begin taking applications next week from entities interested in applying to be cultivators or dispensaries.

Earlier this year, New Jersey became the 14th state to authorize use of medicinal marijuana for people with certain chronic illnesses.
