It is the key piece of evidence that could lead investigators to a suspect. The video captured an unidentified passenger struggling with and then shooting a livery cab driver in Queens.
The driver, Trevor Bell, is struggling for his life at Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, and the head of the New York State Federation of Taxi drivers is encouraging racial profiling.
"Sometimes it's good that we are racially profiled, because the honest to God truth is that 99 percent of the people that are robbing, stealing, killing these drivers are blacks and Hispanics," Fernando Mateo said. "If you're being robbed, don't fight back."
Caught on camera inside the cab was a violent fight, with Bell struggling for his life and hard-earned money.
A handgun can be seen in the attacker's right hand, and the video ends just before police say seven shots were fired, leaving the husband and father in critical condition.
"When his wife speaks to him, he does nod at her," Mateo said. "He reacts to her voice when she rubs his hand."
The shooting and attempted robbery took place Friday at Sutter Avenue and 122nd Street in South Ozone Park.
Much of it was captured by a mounted camera, which other drives say they use.
"Always. I cannot go out of the house without having it connected, because you never know what could happen in the street," livery driver Jose Bobadilla said.
The gunman remains at large.
