Wal-Mart seeks NYC store for 3rd time

NEW YORK

A spokesman for the Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. tells The New York Times in its online edition Sunday the retailer is looking at sites throughout the city.

Spokesman Steven Restivo says that would include parcels far smaller than what it typically seeks for its stores.

The company also has hired Mayor Michael Bloomberg's former campaign manager to oversee its lobbying efforts. Bloomberg had supported the company's failed effort to redevelop a Bronx site into a commercial complex.

The City Council plans to hold a meeting in January to discuss the company's latest effort.

Labor unions, community groups and elected officials have led successful campaigns against Wal-Mart.
