WPCC votes no confidence in Mayor Bradley

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.

It was an awkward meeting attended by Mayor Bradley. He opened the meeting by announcing its purpose, to pass a resolution asking the mayor to resign.

The resolution passed 5-2, with Bradley and Councilman Dennis Power voting against it. Power said the mayor is appealing the verdict and should stay in office during the legal proceeding. Bradley refused to resign.

The resolution can't legally force Bradley's ouster, but council members say they hope it will pressure the governor to remove him. State law gives the governor the power to remove local officials.

Bradley was recently convicted of several misdemeanor charges in a domestic-violence case against his wife.
