The indictment against Ann Pettway was returned by a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Thursday. She's been held without bail after her January arrest on charges that she kidnapped Carlina White from Harlem Hospital in August 1987. White is now 23 years old.
Pettway will enter a plea to the indictment at a hearing on Feb.
24. Her lawyer did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Carlina White's mother, Joy White, also did not immediately respond.
The FBI has said in court papers that the Raleigh, N.C., woman took the baby after her own efforts at childbearing failed.
