Christian Hicks was also sentenced Thursday to three years of probation after pleading no contest to evading responsibility for the June 6, 2009 crash.
Witnesses told police that the 28-year-old Hicks sped through an intersection and collided with the SUV occupied by four people.
Montez Turner Jr. was killed and his mother was injured.
Police say Hicks got out of his own car, inspected it for damage, then left the scene.
Hocks apologized to the victim's family in court.
