"I like seeing all the cars and trucks and seeing all the bands," a parade-goer said.
The celebrations extended from /*Suffolk County*/, west to /*Nassau County*/.
In Oyster Bay, residents enjoyed sights repeated in communities across Long Island: small villages, with close family ties.
"They grew up here and they live all over the country now and they come back every year," a resident said.
In /*Port Jefferson*/, the parade has been happening every year for decades.
Eyewitness News found generations of locals who were carrying the tradition on.
"My grandfather marched in the parade," said Barbara Sclafani, a Port Jefferson resident.
Sclafani remembers watching the Port Jefferson parade with her grandfather.
Now, she enjoys the company of her grandson Dave, and great-grandson Joel.
"It's a lot of fun coming down from when I was a kid and taking my son now, I think this is his second time, hopefully remember it and he'll want to come down as he gets over, and keep it going," said Dave Kestner, a Long Island resident.
