Magnolia Bakery looks to go global

Magnolia Bakery, made famous, in part, by its mention in the HBO series "Sex and the City," is about to go global.

Bakery officials received state approval this week to sell franchises and are eyeing overseas markets as diverse as Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Qatar.

The original Greenwich Village store opened in 1996.

The owners started out with just a handful of employees, offering fresh bread and cinnamon rolls.
