Ryan McCarthy and Mike Eichler both rowed in college, and now they're spending the year coaching thanks to a program called Coach Across America.
Coach Across America is in its third year. There are currently 270 coaches deployed to teams across the country that need coaches. Almost half of them are in New York - and there's a need for more.
Sports can do both physical and emotional good and a trained coach can foster both.
There's a rigorous application process for the coaches, and the program doesn't pay a whole lot of money, but that seems beside the point. The program can be fulfilling for both the coaches and the teams.
