A 55-year-old Long Island woman is charged with kidnapping and other offenses after police say she took a 5-month-old baby girl from a home where she had worked as a housekeeper.

Nassau County detectives say Gloria Suarez had been fired, but was still allowed to stay at the home while she found a new place to live.

Police say Suarez left with the girl Wednesday, then refused to hand her over when officers confronted her at a nearby railroad station.

The child's father told police he became suspicious when Suarez left with the baby but did not take the stroller. Suarez had worked for the family for three months.
