Thousands take part in Making Strides walk

Sunday, October 17th 2010
NEW YORK Some wore pink on their shirts, some on their heads and others put the pink on their pets.

Everyone, though, was walking toward the same goal: less breast cancer, more birthdays as part of the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

The walk unites communities to celebrate people who have battled breast cancer, educate people about ways to reduce their risk, and empower communities to join the fight. Every dollar you raise and every step you take will help the Society create more pink in our community.

Since 1993, nearly 7 million walkers have raised more than $400 million to help fight breast cancer through participating in the noncompetitive, 3- to 5-mile events. In 2010 alone, nearly 800,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to save lives from breast cancer.

ABC7 participated in walks throughout the New York area.

This is WABC-TV's 17th year as media sponsor of the walk! Our goal is to raise over $30,000 to fund breast cancer research. To make a donation and aid us in reaching our goal, please click here.
