Woman killed in Queens hit and run

Police are searching for the driver of a van who struck and killed a pedestrian in Queens late Sunday.

It appears the crash left the victim pinned between two vehicles.

The hit and run happened on Merrick Avenue in the Springfield Gardens section around 9:30 p.m.

The NYPD spent the overnight hours looking for clues and searching for the location of the vehicle, believed to be a van, possibly a red Dollar van that witnesses say hit the woman.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Toya Jones, of Anderson Road, in Queens. She was apparently trying to get into the van or was holding on to the side when the incident occurred.

The van drove away, and Jones was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say Jones was the mother of a 20-year-old woman who was fatally shot in Queens back in August. Police have not said that the two incidents are related.
