Police: man flees, hits at least 12 cars in Queens

ASTORIA, Queens

One minivan is just a wrinkled shell of its former self.

"Very bad. Looking like warzone along here. There were pieces all over the place," one resident named Aldofo said.

At 4 a.m. Sunday, police were responding to a fight in Astoria when a white Ford Explorer took off from the scene.

An officer went after the vehicle but instead of stopping, we're told the driver gunned it, screaming through a red light and crashing into the side of Johana Urena's car at 30th and 35th.

"He lost control when he hit us. So that's why he flipped over. It was like something from a movie," Urena said.

From there she says he ricocheted his way down 35th Street, bouncing off and destroying at least a dozen parked cars. They fell like a row of dominoes.

The young driver eventually lost control of his SUV and was arrested.

Michael DeLorenzo, 20, was treated at the hospital and charged with reckless endangerment, attempted vehicular assault, possession of marijuana and running two red lights.
