Meeting on precincts to resume next Monday

Nassau County legislators delayed the vote on the proposal to close half of the county's police precincts Monday night.

Outside the Public Safety Committee hearing on the issue, dozens of police officers protested the plan to turn four precincts into community police centers.

Inside, the committee chairman abruptly stopped the meeting and called for it to resume next Monday.

County Executive Ed Mangano says the reorganization will save the county $20 million a year.
