Authorities say the 24-year-woman was shot in the face while inside her basement apartment on Strauss Street in Brooklyn just before 6:30 a.m.
She stumbled outside and onto the sidewalk, where she collapsed. She was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Detectives are searching for a former boyfriend who they believe essentially turned into her stalker. He has as many as nine prior arrests for inappropriate contact with the victim, including violating orders of protection.
Police say the suspect was arrested Saturday for violating an active order of protection. A court hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
