The site is located at Travis Avenue and Victory Boulevard in the Bulls Head section.
The 29-year-old worker was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Crews were digging the trench in the parking lot of Lipsticks, a strip club, when it collapsed on top of the worker.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
