However, residents are still being asked to boil water before drinking it in Aberdeen, Highlands, Holmdel and Middletown.
The ban on outdoor water use is still in effect in Monmouth County until the water pressure is stabilized in the system.
Crews are still working to repair all the damage from the bridge collapse, that broke three water pipes on Friday.
What caused the problem still remains a mystery.
Officials said a wooden bridge atop three pipes that lead to and from the plant collapsed, though it wasn't clear whether the pipes or bridge collapsed first. That affected the company's ability to draw water from the reservoir into its treatment plant and then deliver it from the plant to customers.
Roughly 185,000 residents overall in 22 towns were affected by the boil water advisory. Officials said several other water companies were rerouting water to the firm's customers, but not enough to meet normal demand.
To help customers in need, the company set up temporary distribution sites Saturday morning so residents could fill containers with water.
Speaking Saturday afternoon at news conference in Oceanport, Gov. Chris Christie asked residents to be patient while repairs are being made and to carefully monitor their water usage over the next few days.
"This is about the lousiest time of the year this could possibly happen," Christie said. "We can get through the next two days effectively using all of the folks that we have if you help by conserving water."
Crews are now installing temporary pipes at the site to restore partial service, but Christie said the pipes' capacity would only be about five to seven million gallons of water a day instead of the 40 million gallons of water that typically pass through the water main.
Eighteen towns that are serviced by New Jersey American Water Company were directly affected by this incident. They include Middletown, Holmdel, Aberdeen, Highlands, Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Oceanport, Sea Bright, Tinton Falls, Shrewsbury, Long Branch, Eatontown, West Long Branch, Deal, Allenhurst, Loch Arbor and Neptune.
