Police help save 2 people from Brentwood house fire

BRENTWOOD

Suffolk County police say all the people - and the pets - are all right after the blaze around 1 a.m. Sunday in Brentwood.

The five residents were outside, in the pool, when they saw smoke coming from their Hewes Street home. Two went into the house to save their dogs and then couldn't find their way out in the heavy smoke.

Officer Jesse Zuckerman helped one of the people get out from the first floor.

Officer Paul Schreiber guided another resident, 25-year-old Adrian Gardener, to safety from the second floor.

The dogs escaped on their own.

The residents weren't injured. The officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
