The parade shuts down Eastern Parkway from Schenectady Avenue to Grand Army Plaza.
Once again, tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line /*Eastern Parkway*/ to celebrate Caribbean Culture.
Police are ready to ward off trouble for the high turnout event.
"It is a major commitment of resources on the part of the department to police this parade for 40 years, and we've learned a lot, and we think our deployment strategies are the right ones," said /*Police Commissioner Ray Kelly*/.
Kelly has maintained that the city should not consider shutting down the parade, which had fatal shootings in 2003 and 2005.
Last year, three people were killed and two police officers were hurt in a shooting a few blocks away from the parade.
Councilman Jumanee Williams says it is unfair to label this event as unsafe.
"There were some changes made. We hope to make the parade a safe place, and a place for employment, but of course we'll, review that again after the parade," said Williams.
