Meeting held on proposed Queens garbage station

NEW YORK

State lawmakers held a town hall meeting on the issue in /*Flushing*/.

The city wants to build a waste transfer station near /*LaGuardia Airport*/.

It would handle 3,500 tons of garbage a day.

Opponents are concerned it would attract birds, creating a hazard for planes.

Concern over bird strikes was renewed last April when a /*Delta*/ flight had to make an emergency landing at JFK Airport, after birds were sucked into the plane's engine.
