Suspect killed during struggle with cop in Brooklyn

NEW YORK

Police have not yet named the suspect killed as he struggled with an NYPD sergeant following a traffic stop.

The incident happened at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and West 9th Street, under the BQE, in Red Hook shortly after 10 p.m.

Officers were on patrol for an operation called Losing Proposition that targets johns seeking prostitutes. They pulled over a car containing four people at the intersection of Huntington and Henry streets around 10 p.m. One man reportedly got out and started running.

Police say officers caught up with him under the bridge, and a struggle ensued. That was when the suspect reportedly pointed a gun at police, and the sergeant opened fire, striking the man in the head.

Authorities recovered a .09-mm handgun at the scene.

Police will only say the man is 22 years old. The three other people in the car are being questioned.
