Puppy thrown from moving car on Long Island being adopted

ISLIP, L.I.

Joey, a male pit bull, has come a long way since he was thrown from a moving car in Brentwood in August.

His new family is being chosen from among hundreds of applicants wanting to give him a new home.

An Adopt-a-Thon is being held at the Islip Animal Shelter in honor of Adopt A Shelter Dog month.

The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $27,000 reward for information about the person or people responsible for Joey's abuse.

According to veterinarians who treated Joey, he suffered from multiple neck fractures, was malnourished, and had bite marks on his neck.

These wounds indicate that he was probably used as a bait dog by dog fighters.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
