Study shows soda can increase risk of prostate cancer

NEW YORK CITY

A new study finds just one 11-ounce sugary soda a day increases the risk of more aggressive forms of prostate cancer by 40 percent.

Researchers in Sweden also found diets heavy in rice, pasta or sugary cereals increase the risk of milder forms of the disease.

The study monitored more than 8,000 men between ages 45 to 73 for an average of 15 years. The participants were asked to keep a journal detailing their food and drink intake and were regularly examined.

The study will be published in an upcoming issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
