Coney Island tower to get $2 million LED lighting system

NEW YORK

A $2 million LED lighting system is expected to be installed on the Parachute Jump tower.

The 8,000 colored lights will be programmable for shows and special events.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who got the City Council to fund the lighting project, says the lights will turn the tower into Brooklyn's Eiffel Tower.

"The Parachute Jump will finally have enough 'bling' to be visible even from outer space," Markowitz told the New York Post.

The 262-foot tall icon will flash its new look in time for the start of the summer.
