Would-be robbers mistake bathroom for back door

NEW YORK

Two NYPD officers arrived at the Gourmet Buffalo Deli in /*Bedford-Stuyvesant*/ on Wednesday as the suspects were assaulting a worker.

"All I remember is they start beating me again with the feet and with the guns too, more times, many, many times," Said Gaafar, the deli clerk said.

While the robbery was unfolding, someone managed to call 911.

Investigators say Officers Favio Quizhpi and Mark Xylas helped get customers and workers out of the deli, while at the same time boxing in the armed suspects, who didn't realize the business they'd chosen to rob was without an exit.

The men spotted the officers and raced to the back of the store.

They kicked open a door but found it only led to a bathroom.

Trapped, the men hid their weapons and then came out to face the music.

20-year-old Isaiah Henderson and 23-year-old James Gillespie were arrested.

A .32 caliber Rossi revolver and a .45 caliber Hi-point semi-automatic firearm were recovered.

Both of the suspects have been charged with 5 counts of 1st Degree Robbery, 5 counts of Robbery in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, 5 counts of Unlawful Imprisonment in the 1st Degree and 5 counts of Menacing in the 2nd Degree.
