Queens school damaged by Sandy finally reopens

NEW YORK

Students from St. Francis de Sales in Belle Harbor, Queens, were welcomed back to their school for the first time in three months Tuesday.

It's been a long time coming for students and staff at the school. Since the storm hit, they've been working out of Sts. Simon and Jude School in Gravesend.

Even though their original school was too damaged for them to return, it was still used as a relief site for storm victims. They brought in clothes, food and supplies to distribute to those in the community who needed help.

Massive renovations are now complete, and official believed the school was ready to reopen. There wass a lot of excitement as students began attending classes again.

On Thursday, an official Mass will be said as another way to welcome everyone back to school.
