Gov. Cuomo announces Sandy aid for MTA

NEW YORK

Governor Andrew Cuomo says Wednesday the Federal Transit Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency funding will go to cover costs associated with storm preparation through January 29.

More than half of the federal dollars are going to MTA New York City Transit to help repair, reconstruct and replace badly damaged equipment and facilities like the Coney Island Yard which flooded during the storm. Another $17.9 million in federal funds will go to restore the heavily damaged 3.6-mile stretch of the A subway line between Howard Beach and the Rockaways section of Queens.

The Long Island Rail Road will get $20.9 million in aid. Metro-North Railroad will receive $14.9 million.
