A mother from Long Island is accused of leaving her two young children locked in a sweltering car.

49-year-old Maria Luongo-Devivo was arrested after a passerby noticed her children inside a car with the windows rolled up in Commack Friday afternoon.

She was inside the grocery store Meat Farms for approximately six minutes according to police.

The temperature outside hovered around 90 degrees.

Police say her five-year-old and one-year-old sons were both sweating profusely.

Luongo-Devivo was charged with two counts of Child Endangerment.

The children were checked for any health issues at the scene, but did not need further medical attention. They were released to a neighbor.

Child Protective Services was notified.

Luongo-Devivo was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 1.
