Queens fundraiser president accused of stealing cash

NEW YORK

Van Holmes, president of the Young Leaders Institute, was taken into custody just before 6 a.m. He will be arraigned on charges of grand larceny, forgery and falsifying business records. Holmes is charged with stealing $88,000 in taxpayer money from his Queens charity that runs workshops for teens. The money was allocated by Huntley and City Council members. At least three City Council members are now being probed in connection with the money. Huntley is already facing prison time on other corruption charges. Holmes faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
