39-year old Jason Fennes of Bloomfield taught at an elementary school in Montville.
Prosecutors say the incidents occurred during his tenure as a first-grade teacher at the William Mason Elementary School between 2005 and 2008.
Fennes is charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The charges are based on allegations of abuse made by four former female students.
Some of the girls claimed Fennes had them sit on his lap during classes and fondled them while their classmates were distracted with their work.
Fennes remains jailed on $225,000 bail.
