Beach revenue down in Jersey Shore towns hit by Sandy

NEPTUNE, N.J.

A survey by the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/195xb8y ) found sales down by more than $4 million at Monmouth and Ocean County beaches heading into the end of August.

Ocean County tag sales are off 25 percent.

A survey by The Associated Press in late July had also found badge sales trailing last year, with most officials saying they had little hope of making up the difference by summer's end.

The Asbury Park Press surveyed about two dozen communities from Long Beach Island to Sea Bright.

Sea Bright has sold only about a quarter of its usual number of seasonal badges.

Damage from Sandy and a wet summer are both being blamed for the decline.
