The move comes after Jimmie D. Smith was arrested Wednesday by detectives from the Attorney General's Office. His bail was set at $500,000, and he could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
Authorities said Smith had more than 7 ounces of cocaine that he allegedly intended to distribute. They also claimed he struck a law enforcement car with his SUV and assaulted detectives during his arrest.
The 41-year-old Paterson resident is an instructional aide and assistant coach for the freshman team at John F. Kennedy High School. He's worked in the Paterson district since 1999.
