After 3 p.m. police sent out a notice saying the shelter-in-place/lock-down was lifted, with the exception of Old Campus and Calhoun College. The lockdown was completely lifted by 5 p.m.
New Haven police Officer David Hartman says an anonymous caller told them his roommate had a gun and was heading to the campus.
He says at least two people reported seeing a man with a long gun in the area. Hartman says there was nothing specific about the threat. He says the call came from a pay telephone near the school.
There were no reports of shots fired or anyone injured.
Police now believe the witness accounts of someone with "a long gun" was likely a police officer securing the campus. They still have nothing more identifying the caller or the alleged gunman.
One witness identified to police a suspect. That suspect was searched and only had a backpack and was let go.
No arrests have been made.
According to the school calendar, students are on Thanksgiving recess this week. Classes are due to resume Dec. 2nd.
