Two Yorktown officers on routine safety checkpoint noticed a damaged car and after further investigation arrested 38 year old Juan Luis Guevara Villitoro.
A 72-year old woman was struck and killed by a hit and run driver on Thursday night. The accident happened on East Main Street in Jefferson Valley, a busy road with limited visibility.
Georgia Turner had parked her car and was walking towards her house when she was struck from behind.
Turner lived alone and had parked in a makeshift spot near the road, because the long winding uphill driveway leading to her house is too snow covered.
The accident happened just before six, after Turner returned from the pet supply store where she had worked for the last decade.
Police say whoever who hit Turner might not have realized they hit a person.
