A building on the Lower East Side was evacuated Monday night when a second floor balcony became unstable.

The Angel Orensanz Center is located at 172 Norfolk Street.

The Soho Repertory Theatre was holding their spring fundraising gala at the building when people on the balcony started hearing cracks.

The building was immediately evacuated. Nobody was injured and the balcony did not collapse.

The FDNY and Buildings Department are investigating. It appears the second floor balcony has slightly separated from the wall and there may be cracks in the support beams.

The Buildings Department has issued a vacate order for the entire building until repairs can be made.

The building is an old synagogue that has served as an art gallery and performance space since 1986.
