Staten Island delivery man shot in head, possibly robbed

STATEN ISLAND

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. on Grandview Avenue, where the roadway dead ends, in Mariners Harbor.

The victim was identified as a 50-year-old Richard Salvia from Turnersville, New Jersey.

EMS rushed him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

There are no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing. Police believe it to be a robbery attempt, though it's not clear if any money was taken. The Chinese food delivery was strewn on the ground around him.

Police say the victim has at least six prior arrests in Washington Township and Waterford Township, for drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and shoplifting.

Authorities towed away a four-door Chevy Impala sedan with New Jersey plates, believed to be the victim's vehicle.

Detectives were checking surrounding buildings for surveillance cameras that may have captured the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
