New Rochelle athletes hurt when wind blows fence down

NEW ROCHELLE

A gust blew a protective metal fence down onto five female discus throwers who were taking part in the New Rochelle Invitational.

Four of the five needed medical treatment at Montefiore New Rochelle hospital, including one girl who reportedly got hit in the head.

A coach said it had been windy all morning but there was no indication the fence was unstable.

More than a dozen firefighters responded to the incident, taking the athletes to the hospital and then taking down the rest of the fence.
