Meet Helene Sorin: A two-time breast cancer survivor
While no two cancers are ever the same, Helene Sorin has a BRCA1 mutation and a story quite similar to Stacey Sager's.

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- In my BRCA community, there are so many stories of both loss and success.

Helene Sorin is someone I depended upon during my journey, and I hope you will take the time to hear about her journey.

While no two cancers are ever the same, Helene has a BRCA1 mutation and a story quite similar to mine.

She, too, had 2 cases of breast cancer.

My cases were 25 years apart, and Helene's were 13 years apart.

Also, like me, Helene found her cancer herself and was in disbelief.

"It's tough to ever feel like you're safe," Helene explained. "Is it going to pop its ugly head somewhere?"

We talk at length about the importance of knowing your body, and your doctors knowing your body.

Most importantly, one of the greatest things about meeting Helene Sorin, is that she has been cancer-free for 10 years.

"So that's encouraging. You can come through 2 breast cancers and be okay," I said.

She replied by saying, "In some respects, life is better. You appreciate every day and appreciate what's important in life. So I get your journey and I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart that you're going through this, and you're going to do great."

For a better viewing experience, you can stream the series on-demand on our ABC7NY app on Roku, FireTV, Apple TV, and Android TV.
