New York Democrats hold campaign kickoff for Harris, Walz in Harlem
Mayor Adams and Gov. Hochul were among those in attendance who spoke about the possibility of the first Black female president.

HARLEM (WABC) -- Democrats in New York assembled a big show of support Wednesday night for Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for The White House.

The state's Democratic leaders held pep rally-like kickoff party to for the Harris-Walz ticket ahead of next week's Democratic National Convention.

While Harris and Walz did not make an appearance, Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and others were in attendance.

Adams and Hochul were among those who spoke about the possibility of the first Black female president, as they aimed to stoke up party energy for the DNC.

Prior to the event, a large group of protesters, against the Israel-Hamas conflict, gathered behind barricades. The demonstrators are angry over the Biden administration's support of Israel in its war against Hamas.

Police said multiple people were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump held rally in North Carolina as he looked to get ahead of the economic plan being rolled out by Harris on Friday as she starts to fill in, how she would govern if elected in November. Trump's running mate, J.D. Vance went to Michigan to campaign.
