MANHATTAN BEACH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The NYPD and NYC Sheriff's Office have busted a marijuana grow house on a Brooklyn street filled with mansions and expensive cars -- and across from a day care center.

The cannabis grow-operation was discovered on Exeter Street in Manhattan Beach.

Authorities first responded to the scene when someone called 911 for a family dispute on Friday night. Upon investigation, police say they discovered excessive amounts of marijuana in plain view and growing equipment and got the sheriff involved.

Sheriff Anthony Miranda said they recovered approximately 90 full grown plants, 100 pounds of products including small plants, packaging, paraphernalia, and more.

A nursery, fridge, and processing area were also found.

"They are growing the plants from birth to larger plants. They are packaging this their own company stuff and they are selling all this on site and distributing it from this location. So it's clear that this is a distribution point of this particular product," Miranda said.

There is an ongoing investigation to determine the people behind operation. So far, one man in his 30s was arrested.

The property appears to be a rental home with multiple separate tenants. Authorities believe the owner is not likely involved.

Neighbors and parents who use the day care across the street were shocked.

"It's wild that something like this is going on not only in this neighborhood but next to a child care center in a residential place, there's a park right here around the corner where people walk with their children and pets, that's terrible," said Regina Mirochnik, a Manhattan Beach resident.

"It's a very safe neighborhood, it's one of the best neighborhoods in Brooklyn I think," said Francis Nedler, Manhattan Beach resident. "There's family, kids, it's crazy, there's a day care right here."

Cannabis use is legal in New York, but there are laws that limit how much a person can grow. A retail license is always required to sell it.
