43-year-old man stabbed multiple times in Jamaica, Queens; police searching for attacker
JAMAICA, Queens (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a 43-year-old man was stabbed several times by another man in Jamaica, Queens on Wednesday.
The attack happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of 148th Street and Lowe Court, a residential block just around the corner from Jamaica Station.
Police say the 43-year-old victim had just dropped off a family member at an appointment and was waiting in his car, when he was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette.
Freddy, the superintendent at a nearby building, told Eyewitness News what happened after the victim said no.
"This guy, I watched him four times go back and forth, back and forth," Freddy said. "I knew something was wrong with this guy. Then out of nowhere, this guy came back with a knife and started stabbing this guy in the neck and his face and I couldn't let that happen."
Freddy says he grabbed a baseball bat and hit the suspect twice with it. He says that when the suspect tried to retaliate and attack him, Freddy hit the man in the shoulder. The suspect then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, but if it wasn't for Freddy, things could have ended much worse.
"Nobody's going to get killed on my watch, not in my neighborhood," Freddy said.
Police have yet to reveal a description of the suspect.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
