Man in custody after barricading inside Jersey City apartment building.

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man has been taken into custody after officials say he barricaded himself inside his apartment in Jersey City.

NewsCopter 7 was over a heavy police presence at the apartment building located at 73 Colgate St. on Friday morning.

Police say the 46-year-old man, a first-floor resident, had been barricaded inside his apartment for nearly 24 hours, prompting the massive police response.

Some residents were evacuated as authorities worked to remove the man.

Police say the man safely surrendered himself to authorities around 9:30 a.m.

He was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

The man faces charges related to harassment. Additionally, police are investigating complaints of terroristic threats.
