Police search for hit and run driver in Coram

CORAM, NY (WABC) -- On Wednesday morning a homeless man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on Mill Road in Coram.

Police say the driver fled the scene. A witness may have a partial plate number of the vehicle.

The accident is reported to have happened on Mill Road near David Overton Road at around 11am.

Sources say the victim, an adult male, was pushing a shopping cart on Mill Road in the shoulder when he was struck by the car.

The victim was found lying on the side of the road by a passerby who called 911.

The man suffered severe trauma to his head and body and was rushed to Stonybrook University Medical Center.

The victim is in critical condition. So far no arrests have been made.
