America's Cup races to take over Lower Manhattan waters
AccuWeather Meteorologist Amy Freeze has the latest details.

LOWER MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) -- America's Cup sailing races will take over the waters of Lower Manhattan this weekend.

This is the first time the races will be happening in New York City in 96 years.

The races take place Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the Hudson River around Lower Manhattan and Battery Park City.

The nerve center of the races will be Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place.

Here's the full schedule of events:

Friday, May 6

9:00 AM

Local Students Learn Fundamentals of Sailing with America's Cup Endeavour Program Event

Location: Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

- Local schoolchildren will learn the basics of sailing on the Hudson River, as part of the AC Endeavour Program

- Children will sail on Hobie Wave catamaran boats donated by the AC Endeavour Program and partners, and designed to resemble the quintessential NYC taxi

12:00-2:00 PM

All Teams Practice Racing

Location: Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

- Teams will hold an official practice race, and media is invited to cover from land or boats on the water

3:00 PM

Event Village Ribbon Cutting

Location: Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

- Officials and AC Endeavour Youth Day participants to hold ribbon cutting to formally open the free, public event village at the Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

Saturday, May 7 (Day One of Competition)

Location: Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

12:30 PM

Dock-Out Show

- Team skippers will provide public remarks and briefings from the North Cove stage before racing begins

2:00-3:30 PM

Races 1, 2 and 3 (Two or three races to occur, with final number determined day of event)

- A media boat is available for on-water coverage; media must register in advance for a spot as space is limited

3:45 PM

Media Mix Zone Interviews

- Sailors from each team will be available for brief interviews immediately following racing at the Media Center

Sunday, May 8 (Day Two of Competition)

Location: Waterfront Plaza at Brookfield Place

12:30 PM

Races 4, 5, and 6 (Two or three races to occur, with final number determined day of event)
