LI road rage dispute ends in freak accident

MELVILLE, LI Police say the driver had stopped in front of the tractor-tractor at the Exit 49S entrance ramp, blocking the rig's access to the Expressway. He claimed the tractor-trailer driver was trailing his vehicle too closely.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles, and apparently got into a verbal dispute on the entrance ramp.

Eyewitness News is told the tractor-trailer driver got back into his rig, and tried to drive around the other man's stopped car. But as he drove off the ramp and onto the grass, the rear of his tractor-trailer struck the man.

Not knowing he hit the man, the tractor-trailer driver continued westbound on the LIE until he got pulled over by Nassau County police at Exit 34. Authorities determined it was an accident and no charges were filed.

Officials say the struck driver sustained a fractured pelvis. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in stable condition.
