The camera caught the suspect going in and out of an apartment building on Kingston Avenue in Brooklyn last Tuesday.
Police say the victim, identified as Daniel Smith, was standing in front of the building when the suspect hit him with a gun and dragged him inside the vestibule where he continued to beat him.
It's not clear if it was a random attack.
